The Maine Department of Environmental Protection’s request for a ‘No Discharge Area’ designation has been approved by the EPA and published in the Federal Register. This status prohibits the discharge of treated and untreated boat sewage in the Camden, Rockport, Rockland and Owls Head areas.
Curt Spalding, regional administrator of EPA's New England Office said: “A clean environment is one of the bedrock foundations for vibrant, healthy and prosperous communities. Clean coastal water means more days when people can enjoy the beach in the summer, healthy shellfisheries and a resilient tourist economy.”
