WABAG India supplying the 19th Commonwealth Games with drinking water

08 February 2010

The Delhi Jal Board has commissioned WABAG to design and build a €5.3 million water treatment plant for the Games Village in Delhi

The water treatment plant being built on the banks of the Yamuna River will supply the Games Village with drinking and service water for its entire infrastructure, from the residential blocks to the sports halls.

The contract includes the planning, supply, installation, start-up and test phase, a one-year guarantee period and three years of operational management for a modern multi-barrier system. Using groundwater as the raw water source, the multi-barrier system consists of two-stage chemical coagulation, subsequent sedimentation phases in settling basins, ultra filtration and UV disinfection. A link will be created to the Sonia Vihar drinking water plant to prevent possible capacity bottlenecks during the Games.

Once the 19th Commonwealth Games are over, the 1 million gallon/day water treatment plant will be used by the local inhabitants who will then occupy the village.

The water treatment plant from WABAG India is due to go into operation in March 2010.
